Description
Mackereth Hill is a small farmhouse with an attached barn, which was derelict at the time of inspection in 1994. It dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has been altered. The building is constructed from roughly-coursed mixed rubble, with the facade of the house white-washed and a stone slate roof. It is oriented on a north-south axis, facing west, with the house located at the south end and featuring a single-depth one-unit plan.
The exterior has two low storeys and two windows. There is a lean-to porch in the center, with an offset doorway to the left and a roof made of very large stone slabs. This porch is flanked by square windows, and there is a similar square window above the porch, along with a chamfered one-light window to the right. All of these windows currently lack joinery, and the roof is partially dilapidated. A square gable chimney is located to the right, and there is an irregular, non-flush vertical joint with the barn on the left. Additionally, there are remains of a lean-to garage attached to the right-hand gable wall. At the rear, there is one window at ground floor level and two above, all featuring lintels with stubs of former recessed stone mullions, two of which appear to be reused.
Inside, there are two lateral beams with small chamfers and square joists. An internal chimney stack has been built against a plastered wall, indicating it was added later. The barn extends to the north at the same level and is a long range with a wagon doorway near the north end that has a wooden lintel. There is also a small doorway close to the junction with the house and one square unglazed window at the upper level, offset to the right of center. The north gable features a doorway with a wooden lintel and a small square window to the right.
