Description
The George and Dragon Hotel, along with its attached former coach house and mounting block, is an early 18th-century inn with a coach house dated 1867. The building features roughcast rubble and a stone slate roof. A screen wall projects from the left side of the inn, connecting it to the former coach house, which is set at a right angle to the main structure.
The main block has a T-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall with three bays. It has a plinth and a central two-storey porch that includes a 20th-century panelled door set in a chamfered ashlar surround with a cornice. Above the porch, there is a two-light casement window. The flanking bays contain six-pane sash windows. The building features shaped kneelers and ashlar copings on both the porch and the main block, with end stacks at either side. The rear elevation showcases sash windows in chamfered surrounds, one of which has paired sashes and a central flush mullion.
The coach house block is also two storeys high and has three openings on the first floor. The ground floor includes a two-light casement window with a wedge lintel and a former coach doorway that has a segmental arch made of rusticated voussoirs, featuring a dated keystone. This doorway has been infilled with a 20th-century door and windows. External stone steps lead up to the first-floor doorway, which has a sash window with glazing bars and a four-pane casement window, both with wedge lintels. There is a four-panel door at the top of the steps, and an end stack is located on the left side.
To the right of the porch, there is a mounting block consisting of three steps that continues into the angle with the main block, forming a platform.
