Description
This is a barn located 10 metres north-west of Watergate, dating from the early 18th century with some minor later alterations. It is constructed from dry stone rubble and has a corrugated iron roof covering the remnants of heather thatch. The barn is tall and single-storey, featuring three bays and quoins. The main elevation has a door to the left beneath a crude arched lintel and an off-centre entrance to the right below a timber lintel, which now has a door and late blocking. The rear elevation has a lower entrance below a timber lintel opposite, now fitted with a late door and window. To the right, there is a lean-to addition that holds no special interest, while to the left, a roof dormer contains a fixed small pane window. Inside, the barn has large collared trusses with double staggered purlins and a substantial ridge purlin. Narrowly spaced crude common rafters support the remains of the heather thatch.
