Description
Barden Tower Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a retainer's cottage of Barden Tower, dating from the 16th century. It is constructed of ashlar, with coursed squared stone and a graduated stone slate roof. The building has three storeys and three bays.
In the left-hand bay, there is a chamfered one-light window, above which is a two-light chamfered mullioned window with a hoodmould, and another similar window above that. This bay features a band and a parapetted gable. The central bay has two storeys and includes a chamfered one-light window with a blocked-in doorway to the right. Above this is a three-light chamfered mullioned window with a hoodmould, where the lights have elliptical heads. To the right is a small projection, along with a band and a parapetted gable.
The right-hand bay is a three-stage tower, which has a corbelled projection to the left. The second stage features a chamfered one-light window, above which is a three-light window similar to the one in the central bay. This bay also has a band and a plain parapet, with crocketted pinnacles at each corner.
On the right return, there is an offset angle stepped buttress to the right and a wide chamfered elliptical-headed doorway to the left. Above this doorway are two single-light chamfered windows, and the top stage has a window similar to that at the front. The rear of the building has a blocked doorway at the second stage, with a right-angled outside stair that has a plain parapet and chamfered coping. The building features ridge stacks.
