Description

This is a cross shaft base and sundial located 10 yards south of the church in Ravenstonedale. The stump of the cross shaft may date back to before the conquest, according to the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments. The sundial plate is dated 1700 and features the initials I.H. It is made of stone and has a brass sundial plate. The structure includes a square base with a stump of the cross shaft, approximately 3 feet tall, set in a socket on a diagonally arranged plinth block, with the sundial mounted on top.
