Description
The Black Bull is a hotel that was originally two houses, built in the mid-18th century. It features a whitewashed rubblestone exterior and a stone slate roof. The building has three storeys and seven first-floor windows, with three in the left section and four in the right.
On the left, there is a six-panel door with the top two panels glazed, set in a plain doorcase with a moulded cornice. This door is flanked by a four-pane sash window on the left and a plate glass sash window on the right. The right section has a five-panel door in a plain doorcase topped with a moulded open pediment.
To the left, there is a late 18th-century double bowed shop front, which features a central doorway now filled with a window that has Gothick tracery, flanked by Tuscan pilasters supporting a segmental pediment. To the right of this, there is a single sash window with glazing bars. The first and second floors have plate glass sashes on the left side and sashes with glazing bars on the right side. The building has stacks at the left end and along the ridge.
