Description

West Routeron Gill Farmhouse, along with its attached outbuildings, dates from the late 16th to early 17th century. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed rubble and has a stone slate roof, standing two storeys high. The front of the house features two first-floor windows and a plinth. The central entrance is a 19th-century six-panel door. To the left, there is a bay with two-light double-chamfered mullion windows, while to the right, a bay has four-light double-chamfered mullion windows that include central king mullions. There are stacks at both ends of the house.

The outbuilding on the left has a wide opening on the ground floor, which is now partly infilled, and is topped by a timber lintel with a dripstone. A small vent is located on the first floor. The right outbuilding was formerly part of the house but has floors at a lower level, with quoins on the right side. On the ground floor, from left to right, there is a boarded door, the jamb of a mullion window, and a four-pane sash window. The first floor features a blocked three-light double-chamfered mullion window and a small triangular pigeoncote with projecting stone ledges. To the right, there is a two-storey added calf-house, which is not of special interest.
