Description
Hall Cottage, Rose Cottage, and Old Post Cottage are a group of five cottages that have been combined into three. They date from the 18th century but incorporate early 17th-century elements. The buildings are constructed of rubble, with the cottage on the right featuring rough rendering and the one on the left being limewashed. They have stone dressings and a stone slate roof, with four stone ridge stacks.
The cottages are two storeys high and were originally five single-bay cottages, each with doors on the right side, although the door at the right-hand end is now blocked. The left-hand cottage has its door on the left side and features a single-storey covered way with a moulded 17th-century lintel, which is said to have come from Malham Hall. This cottage also has reused early 17th-century windows with cavetto mullions and hoodmoulds, consisting of five lights on the ground floor and four lights on the upper floor, with the central lights stepped.
The third and fourth cottages have chamfered doorways, with the latter featuring a 20th-century porch. Most openings are plain, with late 19th-century and 20th-century sash and casement windows, and plain boarded doors.
