Description
The K6 telephone kiosk in Malham was designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. This standardised kiosk is made of cast iron and is painted red overall. It features long horizontal glazing in the doors and sides, with crowns on the top panels that are applied rather than perforated. There are rectangular white display signs reading "TELEPHONE" beneath the shallow curved roof. The interior has been modernised with updated equipment.
This kiosk is located on the eastern side of Cove Road, at the centre of the village of Malham. It stands in front of The Row, a listed terrace of five former cottages that have been converted into three houses, approximately 16 meters to the west. One of these houses was the original village Post Office, still referred to as the Old Post House. The telephone kiosk has a strong visual connection with these three listed buildings and a contextual relationship with the former post office. Additionally, it is contextually related to a later former Post Office located approximately 28 meters to the south.
