Silverdale Cottage with Attached Barn

Silverdale Cottage with an attached barn is a farmhouse likely built in the early to mid 18th century, with alterations made over time. The structure is constructed from coursed rubble with quoins, and the house is white-washed with a graduated slate roof. It has a linear plan featuring a single-depth, two-unit layout oriented east-west and facing south, away from the road, with the barn extending at the west end.

The exterior of the house is two storeys high with two windows. The entrance is offset to the left and features a 19th-century panelled door sheltered by a small gabled wooden porch. To the left of the door is a small oblong six-pane fixed window with a stone slate drip-band, and to the right is a rectangular two-light casement window, followed by a small rectangular six-pane fire-window, also with a drip-band. On the first floor, there is a square nine-pane window to the left and a rectangular two-light casement to the right, both with glazing bars. A square chimney is located at the right gable, and a ridge chimney is positioned at the junction to the left.

The barn, which continues to the left of the house, features a wagon doorway with har-hung doors and a shallow lean-to porch. At the rear of the house, facing the road, there is a small rectangular stair-window near the left corner, a pair of two-light casements near the right corner, and a small square window above these. The barn has a segmental-headed wagon doorway at the junction, made with rubble voussoirs, and the right-hand half of this doorway is now blocked.

Inside the house, the right side contains two 18th-century oak cupboards under the stairs, one of which is dated 1732 and is currently upside down. There are also remains of a stone oven, and a staircase is located in the corner to the left of the fireplace.
