Description
These limekilns, dating from around 1860, are located on the west side of the track southwest of Smardalegill Viaduct. They were constructed for the work on the viaduct and consist of two builds. The structure is made of limestone blocks with quoins and features a tapered and battered design, standing approximately 30 feet high. There are two double hearths in semicircular openings set about 7 feet above ground level on the east face; the right-hand hearth is original, while the left-hand hearth was added slightly later. The limekilns are currently disused.
