Description
Manor House, dated 1670, is constructed of rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof. It has a two-cell axial stack plan and stands two storeys tall, with a gabled porch at the front and a half outshut along with two modern extensions at the rear. The roof of the left-hand side has been raised.
On the ground floor, there are two restored three-light chamfered mullioned windows with original hood moulds. The porch, located on the right, contains a quoined doorway that faces left, featuring a chamfered stone surround, a four-centred soffit, and a central nib on the chamfer, along with an old boarded door. A two-light mullioned window is set into the front wall of the porch, above which is a plaque inscribed with 'HELP, LORD, FOR VAINE IS THE HELPE OF MAN. RO[GER] HILARY 1670'. A string course with a cavetto section runs across the front wall of the porch. The first-floor windows have been altered. Roger Hillary was the Lord of the Manor of East Grinton.
