Description

Neddy House and Cottage, dated 1663, is a house and cottage that has been converted into a house and byre. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and features a two-cell central lobby-entry plan for the house, along with a one-cell cottage. Both structures have double-chamfered mullioned windows and are two storeys high.

The house has two first-floor windows and a central doorway with quoined edges, a moulded arris, and a triangular soffit, leading to a four-panelled door. Above the doorway is a plaque inscribed with 'GH 1663 FH'. The left ground floor window is a four-light window beneath an ovolo-moulded hood, while the right side has a two-light window (originally four) under a plain moulded hood, with three-light windows above.

The cottage on the left features a blocked doorway that matches the house's, and to its left is the head of a two-light window now positioned above a shuttered window; on the first floor, there is a blocked three-light window. The building has three ashlar stacks with classical cornices, located at both ends and in the centre of the house, the central stack bearing a weathered inscription commemorating the Restoration. Inside, the entrance to the house is hindered by a central chimney, with stairs rising behind it. The name "Neddy" may refer to it being a Nether or Low Hall.
