Description
The Post Office is a house and cottage, now functioning as a house, dated 1762. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and has two storeys. The building features three first floor windows, each with ashlar sandstone surrounds and sash windows. The main doorway, located between the first and second bays, has the inscription '17 D TD 62' on the lintel and a boarded door. There is a secondary doorway in the right corner that lacks a surround and has a 19th-century six-panelled door. The left side of the building has a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping. There are stacks at the left end and between the first and second bays. Inside, there is an 18th-century tripartite kitchen fireplace in the central room. The building was constructed by Reverend Timothy Dickonson, who was the Vicar of Grinton from 1742 to 1783.
