Description

Seaton House is a house and shop, now functioning solely as a house. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and may have been altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and has two storeys and three bays. It features a plinth and raised quoins.

The central entrance consists of a part-glazed door beneath an overlight with lattice glazing bars, all set within an architrave with a base. Above the door, there is a stuccoed panel flanked by fluted pilasters, and on the first floor, there is a 4-pane sash window in an architrave that matches the door's. To the left of the door is a possibly contemporary tripartite shop window, where the central light, which was formerly a door, is now a 20th-century window designed to imitate the original outer lights, each containing nine panes. This window is set in an ashlar surround with flat-faced mullions, with the verticals continuing down as classical bases flanking dado panels. Above this window, there is a plain frieze and an overhanging cornice.

Other windows in the building are 4-pane sashes set in thinner architraves, with the first-floor windows featuring moulded under-sills. The building also has a dentil cornice, a shaped kneeler to the left, and moulded ashlar copings. There are ashlar end stacks, which have been partly rebuilt in rubble on the right side.
