Description
The building known as the House to the west of Clovelley Dene is a stable that has been converted into a house, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and stands two storeys high. The façade features four first-floor openings, with the first four bays having a plinth and quoins. In the third bay, there is a 4-pane sash window set within a surround of a chamfered quoined doorway, which was originally paired with a doorway in the second bay; however, this has been altered to accommodate a garage door. The fourth bay contains paired 4-pane sash windows that are separated by a flat-faced mullion. The other windows are 4-pane sashes framed by wide ashlar surrounds, featuring extended lintels on the first floor. The fifth bay is slightly recessed and was rebuilt in the 20th century, incorporating a carriageway on the ground floor with a timber lintel and a 20th-century triangular-headed window above. To the left, there is a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping, and a ball finial is positioned on the ridge between the second and third bays. This building is included for its group value.
