Description
Rawthey Bridge is a railway bridge over the River Rawthey, now no longer in use. It was built between 1857 and 1861 for the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway Company. The bridge is constructed from rusticated rock-faced sandstone, wrought iron, and cast iron. It features a single span with stone abutments and piers that have chamfered angles and Doric entablatures. These support four parallel segmental iron arches, which are adorned with arcaded spandrels. The original iron parapet, which had ball-joints, is now missing.
