Description

The Clarkson Memorial is located approximately 10 metres from the south-east corner of the Church of St Andrew in Grinton. This vertical slab tombstone dates from the late 18th century and is made of pink sandstone. It stands about 1 metre high and 500 millimetres wide. The top features a half-relief carving of a crowned head flanked by winged putti, with cross-bones depicted below. The memorial commemorates Richard Clarkson, although the year of his death is indecipherable.
