Description
Surrender Smelt Mill is a lead smelting mill and flue, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble. The mill features a central wheelhouse with two ore hearths at each end, and a roasting hearth added at the northeast corner. A flue leads up the hillside to the rear. At the time of the last survey, the structure was in ruins, with gable end walls still standing and side walls remaining up to roof height in some areas. There are five doorways, two of which on the right are blocked, and three window openings, with the one on the left also blocked. The site is designated as a scheduled Ancient Monument.
