Description
Gildersbank Cottage and Spindle Tree Cottage are two cottages that are believed to have been the former Spindle Tree Inn. They date from the late 18th century and have some alterations from the 19th century. The buildings are rendered with stone dressings and have a stone slate roof.
Gildersbank Cottage features a central staircase plan and is two storeys high with three bays. The central entrance has a moulded surround and cornice, leading to a six-panel door with the upper two panels glazed. There are two ground floor windows and three upper floor windows, all with plain surrounds and sashes that include glazing bars. The left side has chamfered quoins, and there are ridge stacks on both the left and right sides.
Spindle Tree Cottage is also two storeys and has a double front. Its central entrance has a plain surround and a six-panel door with the upper two panels glazed. There are two windows on each storey, with the ground floor windows being slightly taller. All windows have plain surrounds and sashes. The right side features chamfered quoins and a ridge stack.
