Description

Yew Tree Cottages is a former house and cottage that has been converted into four cottages. It dates from the 18th century and was refronted in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of slobbered rubble with stone dressings and has a stone slate roof.

The former house section is three storeys high and has four bays. The central entrance features pilasters with moulded capitals and a basket-arched head above the lintel, which has a pulvinated frieze and a moulded cornice. The entrance door is a boarded four-panel door. Each storey has four windows with plain surrounds and projecting sills, consisting of a mix of 16-pane sashes and sashes without glazing bars. The eaves are adorned with paired modillions, and there are two gable-end stacks as well as left and right of centre ridge stacks.

The former cottage section is two storeys tall and has three bays. The left-hand entrance is in a 20th-century porch with a plain surround and a six-panel door. There is another entrance to the right of centre, also with a plain surround and a six-panel door, the upper four panels being glazed. Each storey has three windows with plain surrounds and projecting sills, all featuring 16-pane sashes. This section also has paired eaves modillions, a left of centre ridge stack, and a right-hand gable end ridge stack. Notably, there is a triangular arrangement of pigeon holes in the right-hand gable.
