Description
The New Inn is a 17th century inn located on the east side of Old Main Road in Clapham-cum-Newby. It features a rainwater head dated 1776 and has undergone 20th century alterations. The building is rendered with painted stone dressings and has a slate roof. It is designed with a central staircase plan and consists of three storeys and four bays. The central entrance is topped with a slate hood supported by shaped brackets and has 20th century two-leaf doors with a rectangular fanlight above. There is another entrance to the right of the centre with a plain surround and a 20th century door. Each storey has four tripartite windows with flat-faced mullions, and the sashes do not have glazing bars. A fluted iron rainwater head, which bears the date, is located on the left-hand side. The building also features projecting quoins and shaped modillions at the eaves, along with gable end and left and right of centre ridge stacks.
