Description

Milestone, dating from the late 19th century, located on Cautley Road in Sedbergh. It is made of cast iron and features a short triangular shaft with a semicircular head. The head has raised lettering that reads "SEDBERGH & KIRKBY STEPHEN / ROAD / CAUTLEY." The left and right faces of the shaft display the distances to Kirkby Stephen and Sedbergh, stating "KIRKBY / STEPHEN / 10 MILES" and "SEDBERGH / 4 MILES," respectively. This milestone is one of four remaining in a series of five within the parish.
