Description
Taythes Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a dwelling, that likely dates from the early 18th century and has been altered. It is constructed of roughly-coursed mixed rubble with quoins; the front is painted white, while the left (west) gable wall is roughcast and painted. The roof is made of graduated green slates with a stone-slate eaves course and stone riggings. The building has a one-and-a-half depth, two-unit plan.
The exterior features two storeys and two windows, arranged almost symmetrically. The ground floor includes an asymmetrically-gabled porch that has been extended to the right, featuring a square-headed doorway under a projected lintel, a board door, and a ball finial inscribed "1847". To the left of the porch is a square 12-pane sashed window, and to the right is a rectangular 9-pane sash with a floating stone-slate drip-band. The first floor has two similar 9-pane sashes, all with exposed boxes. There are gable chimneys with stone-slate bands. Attached to the right-hand gable is a restored lean-to peat-house. The left gable wall has a small 6-pane window near the front corner on the ground floor and some through-stones. The rear wall has two low storeys with through-stones on two levels and two windows on each floor, all renewed, with the exception of the upper left window, which is a casement.
The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse forms a group with a barn located approximately 10 meters to the west.
