Description
The Rocket Ship Folly, located approximately 200 metres to the north-east of Sorrelsykes House, is a folly built in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from rubble and features a base shaped like a cube, supported by tapering diagonal buttresses. On the west side, there is a narrow doorway with a blind oculus above it. The top of the base is adorned with flagged coping that surrounds a tapering circular obelisk rising from it. This obelisk has two blind round-headed vents on the west side and is capped with flagstones. The interior of the folly is circular in plan and tapers towards the top, with beams spanning across. Its distinctive shape has led to it being nicknamed the "rocket ship" in recent times.
