Description
This is a barn built around 1800 by John Foss of Richmond, located across the road from Temple Farmhouse in West Witton. The structure is made of rubble with dressed stone details and features stone slate roofs. It has a central two-storey range that is symmetrically flanked by one-and-a-half-storey ranges. The corners of the barn are marked by quoins.
The central block has two barn openings, which are now blocked, set within surrounds that have elliptical-arched heads with keystones. On the first floor, there are three openings for the hayloft, each with segmental lintels. The barn also includes vents and some later openings. The roof is hipped.
On the left range, there is a central doorway that has been converted into a window, featuring a surround with imposts, and flanking windows that have segmental lintels. The first floor has three lunettes for the hayloft, and the roof is hipped.
The right range contains a cart opening with a segmental-arched head made of rubble voussoirs. On the first floor, there are two openings with segmental lintels, and the roof is also hipped.
