Description
This is a bank barn located approximately 50 metres east of High Branthwaite Farmhouse, likely built in the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed from slobbered rubble with through-stones and quoins, topped with a stone slate roof. The barn has a rectangular plan, probably consisting of five bays, and is positioned across a diagonal slope at the north end, where the shippon is located.
On the west side, there are through-stones on six levels, and a square-headed wagon doorway is found in the south bay, featuring an oak lintel and a stone slate drip-band. Slit breathers are located flanking this doorway, as well as others at shippon level near the north end. The north gable includes a shippon doorway. The east side has a wagon doorway that is almost directly opposite the front doorway and is similar in style, along with a small square-headed doorway that is offset to the right of centre.
Inside, the barn features four pegged 18th-century collar trusses. This building forms a group with High Branthwaite Farmhouse, which is situated down the slope to the west.
