Description

The remains of Barsham Hall are a former manorial range, believed to have been the banqueting hall, and are currently used as a barn. On the east wall, there is a lozenge panel displaying the Blennerhasset arms along with the date 1563 and the initials 'I' and 'M' for John Blennerhasset and Mary Echingham. The structure is built of flint and brick rubble, featuring a significant amount of large knapped flint, with orange brick parapet gable ends and a pantiled roof. Originally, it was two storeys with an attic and measures approximately 32 meters in length. Each gable end has an external stack with crowstepped offsets, with the stack on the north gable being larger. Both gables also include original square attic window openings. The side walls contain numerous blocked windows and some door openings, all with splayed reveals and original wooden lintels; several windows retain their original frames, and a few still have surviving mullions. There are remnants of three gable fireplaces, each with four-centre arched wooden lintels. At the north end, four bays of the first-floor structure remain intact, along with a studded cross-partition extending into the attic. The original 13-bay roof features butt and clasped purlins, diminished principal rafters, and two-way arched wind-bracing in each bay. To the north, part of the moat that once surrounded the site can still be seen.
