Description
The former stable block to Langley Abbey, dating from the 16th century and later, is now used as an agricultural store. It features a red brick ground floor with a jettied timber-framed upper storey and a steeply pitched thatched roof. The north gable wall is weatherboarded, while the south gable has been rebuilt in 20th-century brick. The upper storey has been partly rebuilt in brick on the east side, which includes a later mullioned window. There are two doors on the upper level. The west wall is partially weatherboarded and has tarred daub infill in the timber frame. Additionally, there are later pantiled lean-tos on the west side. Inside, the first floor consists of closely-set joists supported by bridging beams and timber posts, with a clasped-purlin roof featuring curved wind bracing and arch-braces to two central tie beams. This building is part of a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County No. 150.
