Description
Chestnut Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century and later. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and features thatched and pantiled roofs. The building has two storeys and attics. Although the house has been significantly altered, particularly with 20th-century windows, the south gable is especially noteworthy. It has a ground floor window with six lights, featuring ovolo moulded mullions and transoms, along with iron casements set in a raised and moulded brick surround. This surround includes banded pilasters with knopped finials and twin pediments, as well as similarly detailed corner pilasters. The bases of the pilasters display a diamond motif. The first floor has a narrower window of a similar design, with a later three-light casement set in a reduced opening. There is also a two-light attic casement with glazing bars, which is set in a reduced opening; only the bases of the pilasters remain, as the upper part of the gable has been rebuilt. The farmhouse features a square axial chimney stack that is off-centre, and there is a lower two-storey pantiled range to the north, along with a later one-storey wing to the west.
