Description
The building is a barn located 30 meters east of Priory Farmhouse, now functioning as a restaurant. It has origins from the period after the Reformation and is associated with Jerningham's house, with the south wall possibly being part of the east end of that house. The barn was altered and converted between 1985 and 1986. It is constructed from 16th-century brick, re-used brick from St. Olave's Priory, flint, and some ashlar. The structure is rectangular with later extensions added to the south and east. It features a gabled roof that is hipped to the north. The west side has one pedestrian door under a segmental arch and one window above, along with many blocked openings. There are two 20th-century glazed doors on the north return below a 20th-century window. The east side has a central glazed entrance that rises to the eaves, with many blocked openings as well. Two single-storey gabled extensions extend east from the front, while the south side is obscured by further extensions. The interior is floored at the north end, and the roof consists of tie beams and principals dating from the 19th century. Sir Henry Jerningham purchased the priory at the time of the Dissolution.
