Description

The Parish Church of St John Evangelist is a Grade II* listed building located on Church Lane in Newtimber. The church features a chancel, a north chapel which was originally the family pew of Newtimber Place, and a vestry or parish room to the south of the chancel that does not connect directly to the church. The structure is primarily from the 13th century, but it underwent significant restoration by Carpenter and Ingelow in 1875, which largely covered the medieval work. The west tower was added in 1839, and the vestry or parish room was constructed in the late 19th century.
