Description
Hinton Woodland Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th and 18th centuries. It features a timber-frame structure with plaster infill, along with 16th-century brick and brick and flint stacks that are encased in flint with brick dressings and bands. The roof is slated. The building originally consists of a three-bay early 16th-century house with a baffle entry that is floored over the hall and has an external stack at the top end. There are 18th-century wings added to the end bays at the rear.
The farmhouse has an 18th-century two-panel door with a flat hood located between the centre and right bays. A string course at sill height features some moulded brick coping, particularly on the right side. In the right bay, there is an 18th-century 12-pane flush framed sash window with a camber head, and two similar sashes are found in the left bay. The centre bay contains a large 18th-century 16-pane flush framed sash. On the first floor, there is a raised brick band and five 19th-century 12-pane flush framed sashes, with two in the right bay, one above the door, and one in the other bays. The eaves project, and the roof is hipped with a large two-flued offset head ridge stack above the front door. There are remains of an external stack on the left side, reaching up to the first-floor window level, with a small plate roof covering and a small 20th-century brick chimney. The roof also features three 19th-century flat-roofed dormers with two-light casements.
Internally, the hall has a stone flagged floor and a large 16th-century chamfered brick fireplace. The main beam is flanked by ovolo and cavetto mouldings, and there is a timber-frame partition that divides off the top end (left bay). In the left bay on the ground floor, there is an early 18th-century panelled room with a corner china cupboard flanked by pilasters that support a carved hood, along with a marble fireplace in a timber surround featuring carved classical foliage. The room has a moulded timber cornice with a moulded timber box around a 16th-century beam. Above this room, there is a 16th-century chamfered brick fireplace.
