Description

Pullens is a house that dates from the 16th century, with additions from the 17th century and around 1900, along with 20th-century restoration and extensions. It features a timber frame, with most walls made of red brick in English bond. There is a filled upper window with a chamfered brick surround, and some lower sections are constructed of malmstone ashlar with brick quoins and a high brick plinth band. The roof is tiled and hipped at the south end, with a stepped stack at the north end and a central shafted stack.

The building includes a late-medieval timber-framed hall with three bays and a smoke bay, which was extended in the 17th century by an additional bay at the north end. The front (east) elevation has two storeys and four windows, featuring Victorian coupled sashes. The upper windows rise above the eaves and have moulded cornices, while there is a French door from 1905 on the north side. The plain doorway has a six-panelled door, with the top panel being glazed, and is topped with a canopy supported by posts. Above the door, there is a stone plaque inscribed with the year 1652.

The rear elevation has a catslide, but much of the wall has been raised to create upper rooms beneath two half-hipped gables. Inside, part of the original frame is exposed, along with a 17th-century fireplace stack that has been inserted into the smoke bay. The north room features two 18th-century arched cupboards set in recesses.
