Description

The Old Forge is a house, originally two cottages, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The building’s front (east) elevation showcases exposed timber framing with brick infill above a stone base, while the north side is constructed of roughly-coursed malmstone with brick quoins and a plinth band. The roof is hipped and thatched, with a catslide extending to the rear, incorporating a section of tiling. A low eavesline extends above outshots on both sides, and a central stack rises through the roof. The front of the house has two storeys and six windows above five. The windows are casements of varying ages and sizes. A plain doorway is sheltered by a thatched canopy. Additional single-storey stone buildings, dating from the 19th century, are situated on the north side. A small terra cotta panel is set into the upper wall on the south side, featuring a figure. The building was formerly a public house.
