Description
Northbrook is a pair of cottages that were formerly a farmhouse, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The structure features a timber frame with brick infilling and rebuilding on the ground floor. An outshot made of flint with brick dressing is present, along with weatherboarding above, and the roof is thatched. The building consists of three bays, including a smoke bay from the 17th century, and has a jettied design.
The first floor includes a similar timber-framed bay added to the right and an 18th-century bay added to the left, both with weatherboarded jetties. There is a central narrow smoke bay with 19th and 20th-century doors on each side, and in the added bay on the right, there are 19th-century two and three-light casements, while the left bay remains blank. The main members of the timber frame are exposed on the ground floor, showcasing a complete jetty and first-floor timbers with brackets supporting the main beams on the jetty. Each bay on the first floor features 19th-century one, two, and three-light casements. The roof is hipped and sweeps down on the right side. A large three-flue stack is located over the smoke bay, with a hip stack on the left.
