Description

The garden walls to the rear of Bramdean House date from the mid-18th century, with gates added around 1900. They are constructed of brick and feature stone coping on the gate piers, along with wrought iron gates. Originally, the walls enclosed two rectangular gardens behind the house, providing a vista through the gates to a gazebo at the top of the garden. Currently, only the side wall from the rear left corner of the house remains, extending uphill to complete the walls of the upper garden. The walls stand 3 meters high and have brick-on-edge copings. The rectangular gate piers include a brick entablature and stone vases. The lower gate is a 1900 imitation of an 18th-century design, featuring a rectangular overthrow, while the upper gate has lighter ironwork and is likely of French origin.
