Description
Paper Mill Cottage is a 17th century timber-frame cottage, with some 18th century brick cladding and minor 20th century restoration. Two walls feature exposed brick nogging, while other walls are of brickwork in a mixed bond, with cambered openings. The west gable is jettied on brackets, supporting a moulded beam. The cottage has a tile roof with a low eaves, outshot at the south end. It is two storeys high with an attic, and the gables have two windows each. The windows are casements, with mullion and transome lights in the west gable. A plain doorway provides access. Close to the cottage are brick-walled cut-waters across the River Meon, which originally supported a small, early brick-built paper mill, giving the cottage its name.
