Description

The Summer House and terrace wall is a Gothic garden pavilion built on a terrace, now serving as a dwelling, dating from the early 19th century. The walls are made of coarse flint with rustic malmstone dressings, featuring quoins, a parapet with coping and a band that includes indented quatrefoils, keystones, and impost blocks above pointed arches, as well as diamonds with quatrefoils. The slate roof covers a tall single-storey south front that conceals an upper floor and a basement, with a 1.1 doorway and 1.1 windows. The pointed heads are present on the sashes and the central French door.

On the north side, there is a basement at the rear of the embanked terrace, and a central gabled projection that contains the main entrance. This entrance opens onto an upper walkway flanked by balustrades and accessed by two flights of stairs. The walkway culminates in a slightly projecting facade with a wide arch leading to a vaulted passage, which ends in a half-glazed door. Each end elevation features an attached chimney stack with small Gothic windows on either side, both at the top and bottom. The terrace wall extends significantly on both sides of the building, consisting of a low wall of flintwork with taller piers at intervals, and at the west end, there is a flight of steps leading down to the approach road.
