Description
The wall to the north and east of the Church of St Anne is a structure from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is made of knapped flint with a plinth and features red brick quoins, a band, and coping. The wall stands approximately 6 to 8 feet high and stretches about 80 yards along Western Road, with an additional 20-yard section along the east side of the churchyard. On the eastern wall, there is a stone inscribed with the words 'NEAR BY STOOD/THE/PARISH STOCKS'. At the northern end of the eastern section, there is a late 19th or early 20th-century lych-gate made of wood with a plain tiled hipped roof. Additionally, about 30 yards from the eastern end of the northern wall, there is an inset boundary stone that reads 'OLD/BOUNDARY/OF THE/BOROUGH/OF/LEWES'.
