Description

The Church of St Mary and All Saints is a Grade I listed parish church located in Droxford. It features a Norman nave and chancel, with a north aisle and chapel dating from around 1200, and a south aisle and chapel from the 13th century. The aisles were rebuilt in the 15th century, and the chapels were updated in the 14th century. The west tower was constructed in 1599, and the chancel underwent renovations in the 18th century, with further restoration in 1903.

The church's walls are made of flint, with some sections plastered and stone dressings. It has small buttresses, 13th-century chapel windows, and most other windows are in the Perpendicular style, with some brick dressings in the tower, which also features a brick parapet. The roof is tiled and extends across the aisles, with steeply-gabled dormers over the nave and a hipped roof over the chancel that has a flat top and a modillion eaves cornice. Lead flats are present above the chapels, and the eaves are plaster coved. The tower includes a square stair turret positioned diagonally in the north-west corner, and above the west door is a plaque inscribed with the date 1599.

Inside, the church has medieval arches and a Norman chancel arch, along with piscinas in the chapels, the remains of a rood stair, and a Gothic niche in the south chapel. It also features a Jacobean communion rail and altar table, a medieval effigy of a lady, and several 18th-century wall monuments. The north and south Norman doorways, which have been re-set in the aisles, display recessed orders with zig-zag and other ornamentation.
