Description
Lancing College, Fields House is a part of the school built between 1910 and 1912 by Maxwell Ayrton in a Gothic style. The building is constructed of knapped flints with Sussex sandstone dressings and features a tiled roof. It has two storeys and an irregular arrangement of windows.
The east elevation showcases a prominent two-storey splayed bay with a crenellated parapet, featuring three cambered-headed casement windows, with the taller ground floor windows adorned with heraldic stained glass. There is a decorative band between the floors and an end gabled feature with one window flanked by offset buttresses. The first floor contains ten additional windows, alternating between two and three light cambered-headed casements. The ground floor is distinguished by sixteen mullioned and transomed windows with trefoliated heads set within blank arcading, separated by buttresses.
The west elevation also features central and end gabled elements with coping, kneelers, and offset buttresses, along with mullioned windows and a door set in a cambered stone arch in the end gable. The first floor includes ten more mullioned windows, alternating between two and three light designs, and a projecting ground floor with sixteen mullioned and transomed windows with trefoliated heads set in blank arches, again separated by buttresses. The building has a plinth.
