Description

Yew Tree Cottages is a pair of cottages that date from the 17th century, 18th century, and early 19th century. They are constructed with a timber frame, wattle and daub, and brick infill, with some parts rebuilt in brick and rubble flint. The roof is covered with asbestos-cement slates and clay ridge tiles, and features brick stacks. The cottages are positioned end on to the road and consist of a 2-bay 17th-century building with a central smoke bay at the rear, along with an 18th-century bay and an early 19th-century bay added to the far end.

The structure is two stories high with four bays. There is a door at the left end of the 17th-century part, while the 19th-century section has a 3-light casement on the right and two 2-light casements. To the left, there is a door at the right end of the 19th-century bay, with 20th-century windows on either side—one featuring a camber head—and above are two wide 2-light casements from the 19th century, with a blue header band on the first floor to the left bay. The rear has outshots, and the road-facing end is brick-faced with two 19th-century windows. The roof is half-hipped and includes a large 2-flue ridge stack over the smoke bay, a ridge stack between the later bays, and a stack on the left hip. The 17th-century part has been empty for 13 years but has been maintained.
