Description

Hurst Farmhouse, now a later house and subdivided, was originally built in the 18th century and extended in the early 19th century, with some window replacements in the late 20th century. The original front section is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with red brick dressings. The left-hand gable is tile-hung, and the roof is tiled with wide eaves and paired brackets. The two-storey front has three windows on its first floor, featuring three early 19th-century 16-pane sash windows. The ground floor windows are modern UPVC replacements, set within cambered surrounds. A doorcase has been built out, incorporating a window with sidelights. A brick stringcourse runs along the front. Originally, the house had a catslide roof, which has now been incorporated into the early 19th-century rear addition, consisting of two parallel ranges. The rear addition’s ground floor is of brick or stone, while the first floor is tile-hung. Some modern windows are present on the ground floor of the rear ranges, but the first floor retains 19th-century casement windows.
