Description

A pair of cottages, located on Church Street in Binsted, were originally built around 1580 by William Deacon. The core of the structure dates to the 16th and 17th centuries, with later restoration work and extensions in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of brick and tile, and feature a timber frame. The north-side of the building incorporates an 18th-century extension. The front (west-facing) elevation has one storey and an attic, with four windows above three. The roof is ½-hipped, with 20th-century dormers and a flat roof, and includes a shafted stack. The timber frame is exposed, showcasing arch braces and brick infill constructed in both English and Flemish bonds, along with a plinth. Casement windows are present. Plain boarded doors are found in the north gable of No. 1 cottage. Later brickwork extensions are situated at the rear, with a tile-hung upper floor on the south side.
