Description
The barn at Long Candovers is an early 18th-century structure with 19th-century extensions to the southeast and southwest. It is timber framed and covered in weatherboarding, set on a brick and stone plinth. The barn features a half-hipped roof, which was originally thatched but is now covered with corrugated iron sheeting. There is a central cart entrance with double doors that have a pentice on the south side. The barn is five bays wide and has an aisle to the southwest. It includes jowled posts with a curved profile and an angled queen strut roof with through purlins. Some original rafters without a ridgepiece remain in the southeast section, while the rest have been re-raftered. The wall frame includes a mid rail and diagonal braces. The 19th-century extension to the southwest hides some original plank weatherboarding of the barn.
