Description
Nos 96 and 98 High Street is a house that has been converted into a row of shops. It dates back to the 17th century but was clad in the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed and stuccoed, with tile-hanging on the right side. It features a wooden eaves cornice on the right and a parapet on the left, all under a plain tiled roof that is hipped to the right. There is a stack located behind the center of the ridge and three dormers, with segment-headed shapes except for one flat-headed dormer on the right. The building has two storeys and attics, with a three-window front. On the first floor to the left, there are shallow polygonal bays, while on the right, there is a square bay. The ground floor has three 19th-century single shop-fronts. The left shop-front includes a half-glazed door on the left and a boarded door on the right, both under a single fascia-board supported by thin pilasters. The central shop-front has a door on the left under a single fascia-board supported by slim pilasters. The right shop-front features a large shop-window flanked by a half-glazed door, which has a pilastered door-surround with a triglyph frieze and an anti-bracketed cornice-hood.
