Description
Nos 146 and 147 on High Street are a pair of houses, now functioning as shops, built in the mid-19th century. The buildings are finished in stucco with plain raised quoins and feature a bracketed eaves cornice above a plain tiled roof, which has ridge stacks located in the center and to the left. They rise to three storeys and have a regular two-window front with glazing bar sashes. No 146 has a 20th-century single shop front with a glazed door positioned to the left on the ground floor, while No 147 features a 20th-century double shop front with an inset central glazed door to the right. The party wall between this building and the Freemason's Hall to the right contains significant remains of the medieval West Gate, which was demolished in 1777.
