Description

This is a house, now a shop, dating from the 18th century, with later 19th-century extensions and rebuilding. The ground floor is red brick, with tile hanging above. The roof is tiled, half-hipped to the front, featuring a gable jetty on exposed beams and joist-ends. There are two brick stacks, one on the half-hip and one to the rear. The building is five storeys and has a garret, with a single window in the gable. There are two windows below, and two to the left in the second storey. A square oriel bay extends over the ground floor and to the second floor, featuring windows to the right. There are transom and mullion windows, with a 6-light transom and mullion window on the ground floor, with a panelled door to the right, flanked to the left by a small window. A single-storey oriel bay is present on the left return front on the third floor, with a gable breaking into the roof above. The interior retains an 18th-century staircase. The later 19th-century remodelling became necessary when the 18th-century house was truncated to allow for road-widening; stuccoed walls are visible to the rear. The building is included on the list for group value.
