Description
The barn at Rushmere Farm is a structure likely dating from the 17th century. It features a timber frame that is clad in weatherboarding and sheet steel, topped with a sheet steel roof that has half-hipped and hipped ends. The barn consists of three bays and includes an aisle on the south side, along with what is probably a later addition of an aisle on the west end.
Inside, there are jowled posts with curved wind-braces connecting to the tie-beams and arcade-plates. The roof structure includes queen-post trusses with collars and clasped purlins, as well as straight wind-braces on both sides, and the common rafter couples remain intact. It is noted that the wall-studding at the east end has been removed, and the aisle on the west end is likely a later addition.
